Welcome Week

We are thrilled to have you join us and have put together a week of activities to help you find your feet and settle in to life at UEA.

There are lots of things for you to do during Welcome Week including sports tasters, dog walks, crafting sessions, campus tours, games nights and more. There will be plenty of students and staff to provide guidance and answer any questions you have. Take a look below to see what's in store for Wednesday.

  • Badminton Taster

    9:30 - 10:30, Welcome Hub

    Start your day off right and come along to UEA Badminton club's taster session. No experience necessary and all equipment is provided!

  • Guided Cycle to Longwater Retail Park

    9:30 - 12:00, Meet at Dr Bike

    Meet some of the team at Dr Bike to take part in a guided cycle to nearby Longwater Retail Park. The journey is primarily made up of cycle lanes, with a number of guides to match whatever pace is right for you. Longwater has a number of big supermarkets, cafes, and clothing and home stores - a great location to get to grips with as you start your time at UEA.

    Please feel free to bring your own bike, or take advantage of UEA+Sport free loaner bikes or register for Beryl Bikes.

  • Introduction to Your Virtual Learning Environment

    Get a head start on your studies by learning your way around Blackboard - your core learning platform.

  • British Heart Foundation pots and pans sale

    From 10:00, The Street

    British Heart Foundation will be set up on The Street each day selling pots, pans, mugs, plates, cutlery - everything you could need to get set up in your new kitchen! Everything is super cheap and all money goes to charity.

  • Campus Tours

    10:00 - 15:00, The Square

    Not sure where your lectures will be? Want to get to grips with campus? Come along on a campus tour!

    Stop by the Campus Tours tent where current students will take you on a tour of exactly what you want to see. Tours are personalised to your interests and needs, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident ahead of start of term.

  • Lucy & Yak: Up-cycling workshop

    11:00 - 14:00, Welcome Hub

    Come along to this FREE up-cycling and repair workshop from the team at Lucy & Yak.

    Come along to this workshop to ReYak fabric scraps to patch, repair or embellish an item of clothing. You're encouraged to bring in an item you want to work on, but the team will also have plain tote bags and some ReYak items available if you don't have any items to bring. This is a lovely creative task to keep you engaged and learn a productive skill while also hopefully getting people to chat about what they are doing and make new friends!

    Materials will be provided and the team from Lucy & Yak will be on hand to help make suggestions and demonstrate different repair techniques.

    There will also be a selection of Scrap Packs and ReYak pieces available to purchase should anyone want to continue or start a new project after the workshop.

  • Bullet Journalling Workshop

    Want to learn how to be organised during your time at UEA? Join this session from the Learning Enhancement Team to learn how.

    You'll be provided with your very own journal and taught how to use it in a way that works for you, whether that be for university, work or general life admin.

  • Bert’s Amazing Creatures

  • Nature Walk

    12:30 - 13:15, meet in The Square

    Experience the natural wonders of UEA's campus with a guided tour led by the knowledgeable grounds team.

    This tour will span from 45 to 60 minutes, so be sure to reserve your spot by booking your place.

  • Basic Bicycle Maintenance Session

    13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 (in 15 minute slots), Dr Bike

    Come along to one of the four 15-minute sessions run by Dr Bike teaching you the most critical and basic bits of bicycle maintenance and care for FREE!

    The ‘Dr Bike’ repair centre is based on UEA campus and is run by the Norwich Bicycle Repair Co-operative Ltd, a not-for-profit business that aims to promote cycling in an affordable and accessible way – recommending only necessary repairs with many services free of charge.

  • Wellbeing Dog Walk

    14:00 - 15:00, meet at the Transport Lodge

    Join  uea+sport for a special Welcome Wellbeing Dog Walk! 

    Take a break and get outside, stretch your legs and let a friendly dog keep you company. Groups will meet at the Transport Lodge and walk around Earlham Park to give the dogs and yourselves some well-deserved exercise and fresh air.

    These walks are hosted every other Wednesday during term time from 2-3pm and open to all UEA students and staff.

  • Hello from your Student's Union

    In this session, you'll be introduced to your Union and its Officers, elected students who represent you to the University and to the world, in addition to finding out what your SU can do for you and how you can get involved!

    Are you a budding musician? Fancy taking up choir singing or showcasing your instrumental skills in an orchestra? Get a taste of the wide range of student-led music making and ensembles on offer at UEA. Followed by a Q&A and a chance to sign up for auditions.

  • Dungeons & Dragons Session

    18:00 - 21:30, Welcome Hub

    Take up your sword, staff and dice and explore the realms of fantasy!

    Run by experienced dungeon masters, Take Five’s D&D nights are perfect for both new players looking to learn more about the game, and seasoned adventurers in search of their next quest. Dice, character sheets, miniatures and rulebooks are provided.

  • Games Night

    18:00 - 22:00, Welcome Hub

    Take a break and get back to basics with a classic games night.

    Local board game cafe Slice & Dice will bring an arsenal of choice. Challenge your course mates, hang out with your housemates, or come along to meet new people!

  • UV Zumba

    19:00 - 20:00, The LCR

    Come try one of uea+sport's award-winning group exercise classes free of charge in honour of Welcome Week 2025!

    All you need to do is turn up in comfortable clothing and trainers - preferably in colours that will show up in UV lighting! Glow sticks and UV face paint will be provided if you wish to use them. Please arrive before 7pm to get your glow on as the zumba class will begin sharply at 19:00.
