Welcome Week

We are thrilled to have you join us and have put together a week of activities to help you find your feet and settle in to life at UEA.

There are lots of things for you to do during Welcome Week including sports tasters, dog walks, crafting sessions, campus tours, games nights and more. There will be plenty of students and staff to provide guidance and answer any questions you have. Take a look below to see what's in store for Monday.

  • Dodgeball Club Taster

    9:30 - 10:30, Welcome Hub

    Come along and try your hand at dodgeball with the UEA Dodgeball club. No experience necessary!

  • Introduction to Your Virtual Learning Environment

    Get a head start on your studies by learning your way around Blackboard - your core learning platform.

  • British Heart Foundation pots and pans sale

    From 10:00, The Street

    British Heart Foundation will be set up on The Street each day selling pots, pans, mugs, plates, cutlery - everything you could need to get set up in your new kitchen! Everything is super cheap and all money goes to charity.

  • Campus Tours

    10:00 - 15:00, The Square

    Not sure where your lectures will be? Want to get to grips with campus? Come along on a campus tour!

    Stop by the Campus Tours tent in The Square where current students will take you on a tour of exactly what you want to see.

    Tours are personalised to your interests and needs, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and confident ahead of start of term.

  • Mature Student Meetup

    11:00 - 12:00, Welcome Hub

    Come and join UEA’s mature student advisor Gemma in the Welcome Hub to socialise and meet other mature students.

  • Owl Encounter

    11:00 - 14:00, Welcome Hub

    Uni life is all about trying new things, right? Why not start with a chance to hold an owl? Photo ops are one thing, but think of the wisdom you can harness from nature’s sagest adviser.

  • SU Voice for Postgraduate Students

    Introductory talk about what the Students' Union is, your automatic membership, and the services offered to you as PG students by the union.

  • Welcome Talk and Student Panel

    Get the proper UEA Welcome from John R Schless (Director of Student & Academic Services), as he formally welcomes you as a new student, followed by a Q&A with a panel of current students.

  • Yoga

    12:00 - 13:00, Lawn outside Nelson Court

    Come and give yoga a try - whether it’s your first time or you want to improve your current practise, this session will provide a perfect break during your first day at UEA. The focus of this session is relaxation, flexibility and overall health and wellbeing.

  • Meet the Art at the Sainsbury Centre

    12:45 - 14:00, Meet at the Welcome Hub

    Immerse yourself in our world-class art museum where art is alive, with a tour led by Sainsbury Centre Director Jago Cooper. Delve into the permanent art collection featuring works by Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon and Leilah Babirye and explore art through immersive digital, analogue and experiential experiences.

  • Visa session

    13:30 - 14:30, Welcome Hub

    These sessions will provide key information about your Student visa, including: a summary of your immigration conditions, information about working on a Student visa, how to maintain good academic engagement, and meeting eligibility for the Graduate visa.

  • Make Your Halls Your Home

    18:00 - 22:00, Welcome Hub

    Get creative with this evening of drop-in crafting activities. You'll find local artists leading lino printing sessions, string art, plant pot painting, postcard making and more. Everything you need to make your new room feel like home!

    This evening's activities are drop-in, with the exception of the lino sessions taking place in CH 01.20.

  • Nocturnal Nature Walk

    19:30 - 20:30, meet at the Welcome Hub

    Experience the amazing wildlife campus has to offer with Earlham Institute.

    This guided walk offers a unique opportunity to explore the vibrant ecosystem that comes alive after dusk here at UEA. Wear sturdy trainers or walking boots and plenty of layers. Bring a torch if you can!
