Employability and Careers

Your career starts here

Whatever your goals, career path or dream job, you'll have career support and advice from day one at UEA. With great graduate outcomes, industry placements and study abroad opportunities, we'll help you uncover your passion and equip you with the skills you need for the world of work.

We're so proud that 81% of UEA graduates are in professional work or further study, according to the latest Graduate Outcomes Survey and we are ranked 21st in the Complete University Guide 2025. Our courses are built with your career in mind, which is why so many of our degrees feature placements, a year in industry or even the opportunity to pick up invaluable skills by studying abroad.

Careers support that works for you

We know that a university degree is a huge financial and emotional commitment; to help you get the most value from it you'll have immediate access to our dedicated Careers Service from the moment you join. CareerCentral provides tailored support that works for you, including:

  • one-to-one guidance from our experienced, specialist careers advisers

  • mentoring from UEA alumni, entrepreneurs and industry professionals

  • skills workshops to help you craft a great CV

  • careers events and fairs where you can build your network and make industry connections

  • a Student Enterprise team who can help you realise your dream of starting a business.

Put your skills into practice

You can study a course with a placement or year in industry across a range of subjects, including Psychology, Business, Engineering, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Media, and Nursing. You'll make the most of your degree, get used to working in your chosen field, and meet connections that you will be able to learn from. Not to mention, you'll hopefully have a foot in the door from the moment you graduate.

Earn while you learn with student jobs

Working alongside your studies is a valuable opportunity. You'll learn to manage your schedule and work-life balance, an important skill in our increasingly uncertain world. You'll also meet people outside UEA, get to know the community in Norwich and beyond. Once you're a student at UEA you'll have full access to MyCareerCentral, where you'll find opportunities such as part-time work, graduate jobs, paid internships at UEA and beyond, and volunteering roles.

We work with some of the region's top employers, charities and arts organisations so, whatever you're studying, we'll help you gain relevant experience in a role you'll love.

Become a student ambassador

One of the most fulfilling and convenient ways you can earn alongside your studies is by working as a student ambassador. These jobs give you experience in a wide range of roles, from giving Campus tours to potential students at our Open Days (you might have had one of these when you were considering UEA!), to working at events, and welcoming new international students to UEA. Whatever you choose, there's always an opportunity to try something new. It's flexible and fits in with your studies. You might just meet some lifelong friends doing it, too.
